New member looking for another Prelude

Post by MikeTeesside » Tue Jul 07, 2015 7:57 pm

Hey folks!

My first exposure to ludes was when I accidentally ended up with a silver 3rd gen EX AUTO, see avatar, due to desperately needing a car, any car, and this was selling for £400 so I grabbed it. Best. Car. Ever. Fell in love. Unfortunately I ended up swapping it for a Porsche 944 (looong story) which ended up being a bit of a disaster as it fell to bits figuratively and literally.. so.. lesson learned. Stick with Honda's. :?

After giving up on the rotting 944 I ended up driving a crap little 1.2 city car just to get me about as I'm self employed and extremely busy, I simply couldn't be without any transport at all, but I'm now in the position to begin looking for another Prelude. The 944 was chopped for parts which brought in a tidy sum, though I'm still waiting for some people to pay up.

I'm looking for a 5th gen now as I'd quite like A/C and cruise control, but I'm also looking for an auto. Though I've heard I should steer clear of auto boxes on the 5th gens? Need some feedback on this as the auto box on my 3rd gen was perfect and flawless.

Cheers chaps. :)

Hi and welcome
Yeah 5th gen Autos are known to have issues.
But if its been well looked after and regulary serviced it should be fine

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! do not by a 5th Gen with an autobox unless you have deep pockets or are very lucky!
I have kleptomania,
But when it gets bad,
I take something for it.

Welcome. If you want an auto Prelude with A/C and cruise control, buy a 4th gen JDM import. As said 5th gen auto's are not the best - plus they have those god-awful headlights up front..

Welcome, always good to see someone coming back to the fold of lude ownership :D

If auto, A/C and cruise is your criteria, you can go 3g, 4g or 5g (EX was the base model of 3g so wouldn't have had either).

As said, 5g auto boxes do have a rep for failing, but merc has run one for years without problem. I guess the danger is not knowing how well it has been looked after before you got it?

you could probably say the same for most triptronic cars

think they can get abused if your selecting gear yourself, such as accidental downshift
