Hi everyone,

I've just joined this group having owned a 4th generation 2.2vtec 4WS Prelude (1995) - it's been a brilliant car but its getting to the age where the northern weather is taking its toll on the old girl!

I'm looking for a Honda prelude specialist in the north west of England to help me diagnose a few faults that have recently appeared on the ABS and 4WS systems. Are there any recommendations out there?

TIA

Hi mate and Welcome!! Cant help with the northern side of the country Im afraid.

If you are prepared to travel I can recommend @cutz from Red R Performance. He recently did some work on my car and is a Honda genius. Just happens to be a member of this forum also.

Ello and welcome to LG buddy :hello:

You can diagnose the problems yourself by doing the paper clip test. All info is on here in the tech section ;)

Otherwise, I'm sure some North western members will be along shortly with some recommendations.

Welcome Storm, always good to hear from a new member.

If both your 4ws and ABS started showing a fault at the same time, I can almost 100% guarantee you that it's one of the rear ABS sensors.
As others have said, these systems can be easily diagnosed yourself without even getting dirty - just need a short link of wire (or a good paperclip) and a fumble around in the drivers footwell.
All the info is in the Honda service manual (links to download that are in the wiki pages on the forum - http://www.ludegeneration.co.uk/wiki/in ... ce_Manuals )

Hi all,

Thanks for the warm welcome and advice

I did the paperclip diagnosis and found lots of blinking lights! ABS, 4WS and SRS.

I reset the 4WS by turning the wheel 45 to centre etc and so far so good but I've only driven 10miles.

I'm pretty sure the ABS fault is a sensor. Does anyone have a good source for replacement sensors!

PS I live in Preston if anyone out there does know of a decent Honda Prelude mechanic!

Hi and Welcome
I may have an abe sensor in the garage but I'm not sure for which corner.
Although I'm pretty sure they're all the same, just the mounting points and length of wire thats different

Hi pal. Do you know how to do the paperclip test for errors? Behind the console in the drivers footwear there will be 2 plugs one with 3 holes one with 2 holes put a paperclip bent over into a U shape and put it into each of the 2 holes to make a bridge. The put the key in the ignition to the last point before you fire the car up. Lights will flash at you. The abs light and the 4ws light and maybe the engine management light. The way it works is each lihht holds the code for errors so if the abs light flashes 3 slow flashes and 6 fast flashes for arguments sake that's error code 36 you then look up error code 36 and follow the directions in the manual which can be found here
