4th gen stereo bracket

Post by jjmartin349571 » Sat Oct 17, 2015 10:56 pm

Does such a thing exist?? Currently my radio is just loose in the dash and it isn't happy with this set up it would seem.

I've seen them in other Japanese cars, here's the one from the MR2:

That just bolts straight in the dash 8-)

Much better than those wanky cages that come with aftermarket stereos.

Is my Prelude missing this, or were they not fitted in the first place?

Cheers Merc, I'll go out and take a look. I seem to recall it isn't a tight fit on the stereo though which is why I thought there might be additional components needed.

Well I took my dash apart, I have two cages but neither seem to have any brackets drilled for accomodating a stereo?

I take it I'm stuck using the ISO cage that came with my head unit then :|

The stereo goes in the top slot.
You need the pocket from the bottom part, for the stereo to 'sit on' at the front.

You do need the small cage that comes with the stereo to locate it properly in the front black facia (stop it being pulled forward/back). If you have the pocket, you might get away without the cage.

The back of the stereo rests on the top of the silver bit attached to the back of the black facia IIRC (if that makes sense).

So is the cage something that came with the OEM stereo, and which I'm missing?

I initially tried the pocket in the bottom (no idea if it's the original pocket mind) with the stereo on top, but even with the aftermarket cage it was all rattling around like nobody's business.

I've settled for the aftermarket cage in the bottom, where a combination of gravity and the bendable tabs keeps it in place. The pocket seems to sit quite securely on top.

I'd still be more happy with it screwed in places though

What do you have with the stereo?
If you're talking an after-market one, yes, there should be a short cage. You mention bendable tabs, so I'm assuming you do have that?
It should all be a snug fit.
When I get the bb4 back I can do you some pics (centre console trim is already removed on that)

I have an aftermarket stereo with the standard aftermarket cage thing.

I'm just curious as to if there was a cage that came with the stock head unit that would allow an aftermarket head unit to be secured using screws from the side, like in the photo of the MR2 bracket I showed above.

The original is screwed in, think it might be from the back though (can't remember what it is like on Lisa's)
