Thanks for the input guys I came up with a solution in the end - went to B&Q and bought a powder used in flower pots that turns into a water retaining gel
Looks messy but it's soo much easier to clean up than loose water that just swills around. It drew the water out of some nooks and crannies too so was pretty effective
Now to start on the rear footwell
It smells so bad if somebody took a jobby in there I think the car would actually smell slightly better

Holy crap, you weren't joking about there being a lot of water in there!
Are there no rubber bungs you can remove so it drains out? Looks like there might be some in those photo's?
The sound deadening around the centre console/front footwell might have soaked up some of the water too? That could be tricky to sort if it has/might have to bin and replace it?

It was filled across that whole section of the foot well earlier, that photo was taken after I'd drained most of it outwurlycorner wrote:Holy crap, you weren't joking about there being a lot of water in there!
Nope, no bungs unfortunately - those circles are part of the metal floor pan, no idea what they are
Yep it has sucked up lots of water I couldn't be bothered to take it out today though. I've already binned all the sound deadening from the passenger side footwells. I'm thinking I might chuck out all the sound deadening from the car and fit new material myself. Anyone know where it can be bought cheaply from?
The other idea is to leave it completely stripped and just put the driver's seat back in, might get me an extra couple of mpg's
