Rust under Spare Wheel

Post by toadster » Fri Feb 23, 2024 2:31 pm

Hi All :D
I have had rust build up under the spare wheel for a while.
I noticed that I have a bung missing.
Would this allow much water in from under the car ?
Should I fit a new bung ?
Has anyone on here treated the rust with brush on treatment ?
Many thanks.

I believe the missing bung will allow water in much more than you think. Whilst driving, water will track up under the car and turbulence/airflow will blow it into the car.

You could probably find the bung on amayama parts listing. If the rust isn't too deep or bad, I'm sure a bit of wire brush action and some product, others will comment on what they have used.

If you need one, @honda-hardy is breaking his lude, see if he still has his shell?

I assume that's the black sound deadening material you're referring to?
If so, the best thing to remove that with is to spray it with a 'freeze spray' (plumbers merchant stuff to freeze water pipes with) so it goes hard/brittle and then whack it with a hammer so it breaks up and detaches from the panel.

Lo wurlycorner :D
Thanks for the suggestion :D
I'm taking My Lude to a body shop I know today.
He suggested a heat gun and peeling it off.
Will see later.
Cheers ;)

Rust under Spare Wheel

ive left my rear seat and boot bungs off for years, it lets a lot more moisture build up drain away compared to letting anything in for me  my 4G would be underwater by now...
