Front seat upper levers inside cable thingy

Post by judderod » Thu Apr 11, 2013 9:43 am

The upper levers to make the both my front seats go forward to get in the back of my 4th don't work anymore. I've tried ordering from Honda UK, Honda USA and even Acura USA but they don't make the cable that goes inside the seat that's snapped anymore.

The only thing I can think to do is make up something out of bicycle brake or gear cables. But getting one the right length with the right fittings on either end might prove a bit tricky. Does anyone know of a fix for this?

I'm close to ordering some new leather seat covers from China and better sort this out when I fit them ;)

I only want 4th gen black leather and I haven't seen any of those come up in as new condition for years (hasn't stopped me looking tho)! I don't think S2000 or 5th gen seats look quite right.

^^ Agreed.
You could buy a cloth set and get them retrimmed? Something I keep meaning to ask @Pushki actually, his leather is pristine - is it original or a retrim?

I'll try and knock something up and do a write up then. I don't fancy installing 2nd hand cables as they'll probably just end up breaking again soon. When I got the car 5 or so years ago the passenger side had already gone, and the drivers side went about 2 years ago so the original ones just aren't up to it after 15-20 years.

Has anyone else got the same problem with their seats? i.e would it be worth me getting/making up a few sets since Honda don't make them anymore?

You can get generic accelerator cable kits on ebay.
I used one when the one on my 924s snapped and as usual with that car, it was impossible to get the correct part at anything even approaching a reasonable price.

Basically it comes with one end pre-made and you can cut the rest to length and then screw a fitting on the other end to finish it off.
Something like this;

Don't know whether the end fittings are the same on the seat adjuster cables 'cause I haven't looked, but might that be an answer?

My problem with your car @Pushki, is that everything in it is so damn pristine it makes all of the 'not too bad' Preludes look like crap! Mine included!! :evil:

It's all about the details. :ugeek:

If you remove something to work on it, give it a good clean/polish/paint before you put it back.
I've pretty much removed the whole interior over the years. I currently have my centre console out....again. :D
