You're right. Looking in the workshop manuals, pressure isn't quoted but charging volume is ...

1992 says: 750 - 800g of R12
1994 supp says: 600 - 650g of R134a (or 650 - 700 for LHD cars).

Can't seem to find anything about JDM v UKDM differences - perhaps the LHD v RHD was what you'd recalled, vanzep?

Ah yeah, that rings bells now - they set the gas cylinder up on scales before charging and the monitor how much they've added, by weight. So that's all you need.
