Wrapping and routing of loom finished today. What a ball ache, but I'm glad it's done.

Worst part of the job was getting the fuse box end of the loom through the hole in the bulkhead that it originally came from... For whatever reason VW put it in the smallest gap imaginable between the brake MC and the suspension turret :evil:

Then started on the fuel lines. I've made the hard line under the car for the return, and connected the hose from the fuel rail to it - that was a bit sketchy as you have to feed it into a mystery hole in the engine bay and after a bit of swearing and pushing it pops out a hole in the chassis rail some distance away :? The hose was pretty thick though so I'm not sure if there's space to get a second in there as the feed. That's a worry for future Josh, so I'm not losing sleep over that now.

I did a bit of tidying after that and left the bay in this state:

A bit better than it was at the start of the day!

Bit's I have left to do (mainly so I have it written down for my reference):

[spoiler]Make & fit hard line for fuel feed.
Fit fuel hoses to fuel tank.
Fit fuel feed hose to engine bay/fuel rail.
Fit inline fuel pump, bracket and filter.
Wire in fuel pump, lift pump and fuel level sender.
Source and fit AGG coolant hoses.
Find a set of bolts that fit the inlet manifold properly.
Source and fit mk3 water pump pulley.
Source and fit PCV hoses.
Sort out some kind of ECU cover.
Source a mk2 GTi downpipe, get a lambda boss fitted and fit a mk3 8v/VR6 lambda.
Fit a throttle cable from a mk2 1.3
Fit a new radiator (not urgent).[/spoiler]

Hope to have this on the road soon before the MOT is up 8-)

It's still getting the 2 litre mk3 lump, as that's easiest :lol: once I have that up and running I'll use it as my daily for a bit with a view to potentially fitting the 1.8 turbo mk4 engine at a later date 8-)

Once I have some more space, and if I find a cheap enough donor, then it has to happen :twisted: For now though I've got enough flavours of Golf engine to keep me going - I've got a mk1 1.8 8v engine, a mk3 2.0 8v engine and a mk4 1.8 20v turbo engine all kicking about... maybe I should by some more mk2 Golfs :lol:

I've been wondering about the 5 pot lumps for a while, I wasn't sure if they were transverse mount or longitudinal though... If they're longitudinal then I'm guessing it'd be a fair amount of work to get it to fit in the Golf engine bay properly, however I would love the quirkiness + bonus period engine points :lol:

Hmm, I have all of those parts somewhere... I wonder if I could make some kind of working vehicle out of them, along with say the addition of a CV boot and track rod end :think:
