My old Celica Gen 5s

Got a car that isn't a Lude? There's no condemnation here. Tell us about it!

My old Celica Gen 5s

Post by Angus » Thu Apr 18, 2013 1:54 pm

Just thought I'd stick up a few pics of my Celicas that I had before the BB4 (I just passed my 10 year anniversary as a member of CCUK :)).

Most of these cars took us to Hungary and back, with only two problems. The turquoise 182 got a coolant leak in the radiator in rush-hour Budapest, and the black 185 developed a dodgy fan relay which caused it to overheat halfway up the St Gotthard Pass. I didn't figure that one out til we got to Hungary.

I was about to by a white one of these when my Type S blew but i got a 3rd Gen Lude instead.
I think they are super sexy especially in WRC castrol colours form.

Naw - our land was just the bit around the old garage there - the field was full of next door farmer's cows. :)

Ratty, Gen 5 Celis are lots of fun - especially the JDM turbo ones (one of mine was a GT4-A, a short step from the full Carols Sainz monty). Pop-up lights are most entertaining, too. Fact is, however, that my BB4 is lighter, nippier and uses less petrol.

I still regret selling that turquoise 182 though - I ended up loving the colour of it and it was in great nick. Still, onwards and upwards. :)

There was an interview with Carlos where he said he got to keep one of his cars, and that he occasionally took it out in the middle of the night for a blast through the streets of Barcelona ... bet that impressed the sleeping residents.

Celebrity endorsement for the Gen 5 was by Eddie Murphy - "Ah Lurve ma Sellika!"

Every so often someone mentions that on CCUK, but I reckon I can outdo them with Ayrton Senna. ;) It's a good club over there though, nice bunch of folks.
