how to fix 5th gen window problem

It's possible you have a blockage somewhere, maybe the rubber channels are damaged or something is obstructing the scissor mechanism that moves the window. This could probably happen if the rubber channels are severely dried out as well.

I can pull the window up but it won't go up on its own.

I would take the door apart, check, clean and re-grease all the moving/sliding surfaces and maybe do an electrical check on the operation of the window motor as well.

^^ as above. Also check the where the mechanism mounts to the door, I had to put new bolts in mine once because the original ones were worn out and the mechanism moved around meaning the window wouldn't reach the top.

I've even tried lifting the window up without the weight of the window it won't lift past a certain point it just hits one point then won't go up any more.

Sounds like the mechanism is out of alignment or has something stuck in it.
