Super Lap Scotland 2014 Round 5

Super Lap Scotland Round 5

Image

After failure in the final the day before I wanted to put in some good times on Sunday's SLS Round 5, back on the regular circuit. In practice 2 I was trying out some new gear changes to allow me to brake later on the big straights. I gave it a good hammering and burst the drivers side brake hose when going into the hairpin. Thankfully I had lost most of my speed before it gave out, leaving me with 50mph odd of speed to deal with  somehow the car slowed enough to divert it away from the gravel trap.

That was the end of the day. We didnt have the replacement part, or the right tools to get the brake hoses of, plus there wasnt engough time to get all the bits together and fix it before the start of qualifying.

The wheel nuts were roasting hot and wouldnt slacken for about an hour after I came off track. Since I couldnt do a cool down most of my brakes were smoking when I came to a stop back in the pits.

So my only points all weekend for SLS I got was for 5th place in the qualification on the Saturday. This puts and end to the season in terms of chasing a podium finish. The only thing left is to try and break the minute barrier. There is always next year though :D

Some pics from the 11 laps I was on track.

We had the car back at HQ so tonight we had a proper look at what had gone wrong. It was the drivers brake hose but also the drivers CV boot had burst.

I had the KSport hoses sitting there. The reason why we hadn't done this earier was that the joins to the brake pipes didnt look the greatest. Since we had all the stuff there 3rd Gen Steve made up a new pair of brake pipes to go with the new hoses.

The brakes are now sorted but the CV boot is still to do.

Bad luck Merlin. Can't you drop a certain number of weekends results though, only a certain amount count or something like that?

They were "Neil's" or something. What we think happend was that either I forgot to cable tie the hose or that the cable tie snapped off which allowed the hose to rub on the CV joint, causing them both to fail.

This isnt true. This morning I found out that even though I contributed few points our team managed to get into first place for the team trophy. So there is that to fight for on the final round.

Some pics from Saturday's soaking round 4. I should have had the Rainsports on but one of them was leaking very badly and needs re-sealed.

Because I have moved class and also chose not to do round 2 I have no dropped rounds left available to me. Also, what did I say about things braking
