Re: Macky's Type-S : Folding Mirrors :D

Post by macky_6 » Thu Nov 14, 2013 7:55 pm

Finally!!!

Managed to get a working set of JDM folding mirrors

One of the coolest parts of the JDM Ludes is the folding mirrors. When i bought the S, one was broken. It had been badly damaged at some point and the casing had been glued together, preventing it folding.

I got a set of casings, sprayed them to match my colour, swapped over the internals, but still it wouldn't fold :( There was no power in the folding mechanism so i suspected that the motor had been burned out by trying to fold when the casing was glued?
Managed to blag a motor from a 4th gen folding mirror which is nearly identical, taught myself to solder and fixed it all up. Still didn't work

Finally decided to fork out for a working set and fitted them today :D My original plan was to swap the casing over to match my car but after a trial fit to see if they worked, i actually liked the black casing and think it ties in with my black theme? Saved me a wee job into the bargain. Hope you agree 8-)

JDM 4th gens had electric folding mirrors.

You can retro-fit folding mirrors to UKDM models. You need the mirrors, switch and relay from a JDM car and then need to get happy with the wiring. There's a couple of people on here that have done it, myself included - have a look in my UKDM profile. I did it the really anal way, if you're not fussed about doing a neat job/originality you can just stick it all in with generic crimp connectors all over the place.
