I took mine off and drove for years without one, only issue I had was the same as what other people have mentioned....steam coming off the bonnet when its raining and I'm sat in traffic.

This is great to know, I was thinking of expanding my sticker bombing to under the bonnet - old Skool like :)

The black thing on the underneath of the bonnet?
Nah, I don't reckon for a moment that's asbestos.

I looked closely at the one on my breaker today and its more a blue color close up. kinda like the blue asbestos stuff they use in the ceilings of sheds and warehouses and stuff.

hmm.. grind some up, inhale and/or eat it.. wait 45 years and see if you're showing any signs of asbestos poisoning, if you're not then it's probably ok. Just remember to update this thread after you've found out once and for all. Thanks.

Removed mine and cut some of the underskin of the bonnet to get the supercharger to fit, no problems at all :D

Do you reckon this might serve a dual purpose of slightly protecting the engine from the cold on frosty mornings? This is an issue in Scotland

I am desperate to remove it now that i hear it unleashes more noise
