Vtec has become weak and possibly low on the power front.

Well i would get plugs etc done as soon as you can, also vtec should'nt kick, it should be a smooth change and strong pull. Hope you get it sorted soon.Bludge wrote:Plugs, fuel filter and oil and filter need doing. i slapped on a k&n air filter not long ago and it make the vtec kick a little more agressive (or so it felt to me).ADS1 wrote:When were all the basic service items last replaced, i mean plugs, fuel filter, air filter, oil and filter change. A leak in exhaust system, especially mani or downpipe will loose you power.
Cleaning the vtec solenoid every year or two is definately good idea, but that is probably not the cause of your issues. If it were surely vtec would not engauge at all??? As far as i know vtec can't half engauge, you either have it or you don't.

If the Bosch plugs are showing on the list as equivalents, there's no harm in using them fro the time being. They'll be the right reach, temperature etc and should at least be better than the correct but worn or broken-down plugs.

will get some of the cheapy plugs when i get oil then.
do i need an oil filter wrench to do the filter or can i use something else? also how many litres of oil does the engine take?
it occurs to me that i have never kept a car long enough to worry about an oil change!
i changed the dizzy to the one off my breaker the other day cause i was running really rough and its made a huge difference, but it was after that that i started noticing the vtec issue.

i recently got oil & plugd from opie oils using one of the discount codes in therir section of the forum. i got 5ltr of oil & had some left over the pugs were the denso iridium power ones & with the discount came to about £26 if i remember rightly. I had to use a filter wrench on mine as whoever changed it last put it on way to tight.

Think the h22 should be using platinum. A pal of mine had running issues using old iridium plugs, changed them out and has been fine since!!

it runs smooth as silk compared to before i changed the dizzy, its just the vtec issue now.
I got 5l of oil (hope thats enough??) for £12 and a cheapy set of plugs for £8.40.
Gonna change the oil, filter and plugs this week and clean the vtec solenoid screen and see what happens.
If anyone is interested they have some great deals going on on the eurocarparts website at the moment.
