h23 tensioner upgrade

Post by clarelude23 » Mon Feb 16, 2015 5:09 pm

I am due a timing belt change and have been reading up on the h23 manual tensioner upgrade which seems popular. Has anyone done the upgrade and is it worthwhile.? A kit plus shipping is around €120. Any thoughts?

I personally don't like the idea of all them parts and faffing around. I fitted a vtec Direct manual tensioner to mine. Works a treat. ;) :)

Good choice. I'm running one as well. Minimum labour and does the job well

If you have a standard engine, it is a completely unecessary mod though and means you need to strip down the side of the engine to re-check the tension after the new belt has run in (in case the tension has changed). That's something that isn't needed with the auto tensioner.

I have the H23 manual tensioner on both my H22's. Never had a problem with either.

Also the H23 mod leaves no room for any slack. It is a hard enough job to get the belt on in the first place, it isn't going anywhere. drokk taking off the crank pulley just to check the belt

Have the kaizenspeed one ordered,it seems to be a good option just for peace of mind and reduced installation time compared to the OEM auto tensioner and the h23 option. Although checking for slack after a run in is a balls but looks like its my only option now seeing as I've it ordered an' all
