Only 2 pistons working...

Post by ek9sid » Fri Jul 17, 2015 4:04 pm

Hi all. Today I managed to get round to stripping the original engine out of my lude (originally suspected spun bearing).

When I got the head off I thought I'd try rotating the crank (would lock after 1/8 turn) and noticed that only pistons 3 and 4 were moving. Not been able to get the bottom end out yet so been unable to inspect but I thought I'd ask what everyone's opinions/guesses would be as to the cause :-)

Did it die from oil starvation? It might have thrown a piston rod, I managed that on my 6th gen Accord when it dropped its oil on the dual carriageway. Is there any external damage on the block?

No external damage. I believe it was run without oil before I got it as it had always seemed to run a bit rough.

Nitin..what's a VCM?

Big end caps blown off the other 2, or crank snapped?
