Radiator weeping

Post by alinton » Thu Mar 23, 2017 1:53 pm

Hey all, my car failed it's MOT today - well, not strictly true, they wouldn't actually test it as they said it had a radiator leak.

I hadn't noticed this, but looking it seems to be weeping along the top.

Any comments on this? Is a replacement needed?

Thanks,

Andy

If it's weeping at the join between the top part and the matrix, it should probably be replaced.

A rad replacement is an easy fix. What rad do you have the Toyo or Denso?

Unfortunately the cheap rover 600 rads are the Toyo type.

They're not interchangeable?

Ideas on sources please?

Thanks

The rads themselves are interchangeable however both styles of rad have different fan mounting points and use different rad caps.

I see Nissens list a radiator for the car, but it says manual transmission. Mines auto; is it the same rad in auto and man?

Unfortunately auto an manual rads are different, autos have two extra pipes.

Yep autos have a transmission oil cooler inside the bottom of the rad.
You can fit an auto rad to a manual car, but not the other way around.
I have a couple of good spare (used) 4g rads. Can't recall if they are auto, but I can check if you're interested and are anywhere near (I don't fancy posting them)?
