Yep, if too tight you can file the ends to open up the gap.

If too large, then I presume you have oversize pistons? If so you'd need to source oversize rings.

No experience of this make of rings at all (Hastings), but here's one source for standard/oversize/double oversize rings:
https://rhdperformance.co.uk/hastings-p ... 0722-p.asp
They show as out of stock, but contact them and they may be able to get them in?

Or these guys:
https://www.a4h-tech.com/en/hastings-pi ... 23-engines

If you contact these guys, they may be able to get you Mahle rings.
https://marmotorsport.com/

You probably know this already, but be careful to get the right kind of rings - whether for the OEM block, or a cast iron/ductile iron lined block (if you've had that done).

nb: vtecmec knows far more relevant detail for H22 rings, than me!

Jdm h22a piston rings

Post by yorke58 » Sat May 24, 2025 8:12 pm

Ive measured the bores and the piston and there 87 mm and the rings ive got are to large i can get a 0.80 feeler guage in.

The original rings fit and can tell they are original. I ordered standard rings for 87mm. Ive done little googling and it looks as though the H22a are different?

The block must be lined cos the engine shop i took it to couldnt hone it as its lined. But can tell its original.

Its a H22a 1150095 bbbb

Thanks for help and anymore

Cheers

Jdm h22a piston rings

B pistons are slightly smaller than A pistons so that might explain the gap. Might be best if you check with Honda and see if they can supply.
Info from HondaTech
A 86.993-87.006
B 86.983-86.996

Hope this helps.
Also I would double check with machine shop - the bores have frm liners from the factory and this is hard as hell hence worn rings. ;)

Jdm h22a piston rings

Ive placed the new rings in the bores only, wirhout any pistons, and still have a big gap compared the the old ones. When you lay new and old rings on top of each other the new rings have a bigger gap but same diameter.

It looks as though the rings ive got are incorrect for a h22a. Ive just checked the new rings and it looks as though there for a A2 or A4. I just cant find rings just for H22A.

I might have to ring honda as youve said. With hard bores i want them to be right

Cheers
