I've just ordered them mate x8 cost £108

I assume your a5 ones are shorter than the older style. The 14820-PCB-305 are from the nsx, I don't have time to be finding washers atm. Maybe next time.

I bought some Skunk2 ones for my CRX, was unsure as they were the spring types which by the sounds of things are similar to the ones you are looking at.

I couldn't find any reviews on them, but they were a simple direct replacement. Very happy with them and by the looks of it, will be a hell of a lot more durable thanks to their simple design.

Not sure if yours will be the same, but might be worth seeing if Skunk2 do any?

No they don't seem to list them for the h22, I could use the skunk2 with a washer but I don't have time to look atm.

Well I currently have my engine in pieces...

Turns out the new LMAs I bought (and waited 7-8 weeks for) are the wrong ones. :x

My car is a 1999 Prelude; first year with the H22a8 engine and it turns out they were fitted with the newer spring style LMA but not the one with the shim at the bottom. It is part no. 14820-PCB-003 (on the left).

The ones I bought are the same ones the NSX uses and are the replacement for the older, hydraulic LMAs that were in the pre-1999 Preludes. It is part no. 14820-PCB-305 (on the right).

Add to that the fact that my rocker arms have seen better days, the shims on the top of the existing LMAs have grooves worn into them by the back of the VTEC rocker arms and my camshafts are lopsided so have obviously worn quite heavily as well... :( This could be the reason for my excessive valve train noise despite the valve clearances being ideal.

On the plus side I guess this forces me down the route of upgrading the head!

As for ordering the wrong LMAs, my own stupid fault for reading so many online posts with people recommending the 14820-PCB-305 LMAs when all the parts catalogues I looked at specified it was the 14820-PCB-003 LMA for my year model!

So for anybody else who is confused about which LMA they need for their Prelude, check the parts catalogues or with your local Honda dealer and go with that model LMA. Generally speaking:

- Pre - 1999 uses LMA part no: 14820-PCB-305 (same size as the old hydraulic LMAs and replaces them)
- 1999-2001 uses LMA part no: 14820-PCB-003 (identical to the 14820-PCB-305, minus the bottom shim)

Sorry to hear your woes :( the different lma's look exactly the same, except one comes with a shim/washer on the bottom. Is that the only difference?

When I looked at them close up it seemed like the one with the shim at the bottom has more of a taper to it but that may just be the shim making it look thinner at the bottom, so you are probably right. I didn't want to chance trying to remove the shims and mess something else up as that would really have made my day!

Engine is back together now but I'm going to find out if I can get the rocker arms refinished as the grooves in the primary rockers are quite narrow and deeper than I would like and the secondary arms aren't great either.

This is for a car with nearly 134,000 miles - so I expect most people's rocker arms will be in a similar state but now I've seen them I want to get them back to top spec. Engine still pulls like a train and never misses a beat, just the valvetrain is noisier than I would like.

Good shout Wurly, I took a look at this again today after a good night's sleep! Turns out the LMAs are identical bar the shims on the bottom, as I popped them all out and fitted them all today. Didn't notice any difference in the strength of the springs and it hasn't made a blind bit of difference to my engine ticking noise, despite double-checking the valve clearances were all good, so my investigations continue!

I will probably polish out the small bit of wear in the top of the old LMAs, fit the bottom shims and flog them for anyone who wants them as an upgrade for the old hydraulic LMAs.
