Check wiring, strange that your getting too much voltage, possible short somewhere? Be it in ECU or through a wiring issue.. Hmm it's not like it's a large amount of voltage either like 1 volt, seems like your on the right track finding the source of the 5v feed, could be moister in a circuit bourd causing slight short... Interested to see what comes of this now...

The manual does say to check for shorts in the wiring, not sure on how I'd do that though?JEBB4 wrote:Check wiring, strange that your getting too much voltage, possible short somewhere? Best way is probably a short detector, which you run along the loom which beeps when it notices one, other than that it's a case of physically following the wire through the loom to the ECU to see if its possibly rubbing on another wire or an electrical connector in the loom has corroded pins or moisture causing it to pick up slight voltage from another source... Can be very time consuming to be done properly by pulling the loom apart

check your thermostat earthing point, along with the other important ones in the engine bay;Drax wrote:This problem is still apparent. took it to Bri last night and we checked the timing and it was pretty much bob on.
still got 2 error codes appearing when the problem happens, 7 and 20 which is TPS and ELD.
i swapped the TPS for a spare a few days ago so i dont think its that at fault. does the TPS need to be adjusted sometimes? once you place it on the TB, when doing up the bolts there is room for adjustment up or down....?
EDIT - forgot to add, now ive been in Will's car when it happens, the splutter and cut out are the same thing, its just a splutter and cuts the power (doesnt stall the car) briefly for a second more than anything.
it also now seems to vtec ok
1. rocker cover to engine mount/body
2. gearbox to body
3. intake manifold to engine
4. thermostat
5. battery to body
6. earths behind the headlights
if you're throwing up multiple faults they are most likely common to a single problem
