Fujitsubo header repair/modification

Post by wurlycorner » Sun Mar 02, 2014 1:15 pm

The fujitsubo header I bought recently has the usual downpipe scrape/dent marks on it (all known before I bought it, so no probs there). It's already had this section replaced by Solid Fabs once and I think I'm going to ask them to repair the dented section again, before it gets fitted.

My thinking is though... This is a common problem with this header from what I've read and I'm wondering about getting the replacement pipes fitted something like 5mm shorter on the downpipe vertical, so it lifts the horizontal pipes slightly further off the ground.

It would obviously reduce clearance slightly between the downpipe and the sump. Don't think it would cause any issue with the swivel joint because the change in angle back there would be so small? Can't think of anything else that would perhaps be a problem?

Could people who have this header fitted to a 4th gen take a look at it and see what they think please? A measurement of the current clearances between downpipe and sump would be good please and any other thoughts/observations you have.

 @pushki and @si import I think you both have this header? :? Not sure who else has...

Thanks for such prompt response Tony :D Much apre' and +rep

It'll probably be next weekend before I can get it sent away so got a bit more time. Can you try and work out what sort of gap there is between the top of the pipe and bottom of the sump please, whenever is convenient?

Thanks

I have a Fujitsubo as well and have the same flat spots. I am going to ask whoever builds an exhaust for me to chop out the flat spots on the down pipe.

Yep, that's what I meant I was going to get done again and was thinking of shortening the vertical part by a small amount.

I was under the car today and I remembered this thread.
I stuck my hand in between the exhaust and sump, and was just able to get my fingers in there.

I estimate the gap to be about 15mm max.
Hope this helps Wurly. ;)
