P13J50 JAT to manual ECU

Post by Lorenzo » Mon Mar 24, 2014 9:45 am

Hi, I am finishing my engine swap and bought a P13J 50 ECU with TCS, it form auto Prelude, and I need to convert it to run with manual gearbox, with possibility to have TSC.
I have google'ed some how to descriptions, but non of them was about converting JDM ecu with TCS to manual.
Can anyone help me with that?

Doesn't the TCS require a 4 connector loom? Regular looms are 3 connector.

By all accounts the TCS is a bag of crap anyway :(

Yes, TCS requires a 4 connector loom. I assume it gets an additional feed from the ABS ECU, or direct from the front wheel speed sensors? :?

:? I still haven't tried it out on Lisa's lude since I fixed it last year!

I do not want to damage the ECU, I will be selling in after some time, because I already have P28. But for the firs start and test drives I need this one to work with manual gearbox. Any suggestions?
If I use this tutorial will TCS work?

Don't use it and get a non-TCS manual JDM P13 instead.

I would think that unless your car has a 4th connector on the loom for the TCS it will not work.

That's correct.

Also if you're trying to use a 4 plug ECU on a 3 plug car, I think your rev counter is unlikely to work (that's what happens when you try to use a 3 plug ECU on a 4 plug car anyway, so I can't see why the same wouldn't be true in reverse).

If you have a 3 plug loom, honestly the simplest thing would be to buy a 3 plug manual P13 ECU. You should be able to pick one up very cheaply on here (no one buys them because they're ten a penny/don't go wrong/people only look to buy chipped ones). If you had to pay more than £20 I'd be surprised?

I've tested this and it was not a problem, rev counter or otherwise.

I'm assuming the OP has bought a 4 plug ECU because he has a 4 plug loom? If this is the case, and the conversion is pretty simple, you can always try it out and if it does not work put it back to original.

I am using 3 plug loom, to make it clear. Fallowing the manual, I should move jumper wire form one place to another and will have a manual ECU and I can use it in 3 plug loom :?:

Maybe, though I think the potential issue is no one is entirely sure if the TCS ECU will work as expected if converted to a manual. Personally I think it will be ok.
