Welcome home!

Went to take the lude out this morning, was really looking forward to this after 2.5 weeks away.
I'd given it a good wash before I went away so the bodywork was nice and clean. That coupled with the hard frosts recently combined to give it a properly 8-) covering;

Nice big frozen blobs;

And big spiky shards;

Jumped in and turned the key, all pleased as punch that usual Honda reliability proved itself (fired straight up and purring away) ;) So I left it running and got on with defrosting.

2 layers of frost revealed from the outside, to reveal...

Another layer on the inside :lol:

So why is this posted up in the engine section?
Well I moved the car so I get at the passenger side and found this :shock: :cry: :evil:

Looks like a cam seal has gone FFS :roll: :troll:

While I was there, I spotted this sticking out of the cam cover. It's towards the back of the engine (behind the engine mount) and low down. Can't say I'd noticed it before. What is it? (The sticky out thing with a small hole through and a knurled end)

So has it been frosty like this a lot then? (Question for others really, I know you've been away!)

My sleep cycle has shifted by several hours so I'm going to bed at 5-6am and up at 11-12 so hadn't really realised it's been that bad :?

Put some water in your freezer so it's still liquid but near freezing (I think ideally it needs to be way below freezing but not really possible at home), break a frost crystal off and drop it in, might stimulate the rest of it to instantly freeze. Normally this is done with supersaturated ionic solutions but it may work with regular water. ;)

I still probably sleep less than you :roll: I'm sure most students going to bed at sunrise don't get up for lunch :lol:

It's the locking mechanism for the auto tensioner, it should have a rubber grommet against the plastic cover and a split pin through the hole, both of which appear to be missing, but that's no big deal.

Looks a touch high for the balance shaft seal but with that amount of oil I'd be suprised if its a cam seal
:thumbdown:
