Longish story, and hope you will carry on reading.

Car has been on a de cat for around 7 years which is great, but mot time, it’s being nice to the garage, and always ask them to carry out an oil change, and any other small jobs.

Decided to have a sports cat fitted, which is booked in for the 18th this month, and keep the de cat pipe as a spare.

The car was mapped on a de cat, and wondered if it would need re mapping after.

Contacted Romain Levesque who originally mapped it , and was told that he no longer maps cars on Neptune, as his gear was broken, and was not going to replace, as little demand these days. Hondata S300 seem to be the order of the day, and he would map the car if installed.

He also said that if the sports cat is not very restrictive, it should be fine, but to be on the safe side get the Air Fuel Ratio checked out, and should read 12/ 13 at full throttle.

Hondata’s are not cheap, but wondered if this is a way forward, and money well spent. Being n/a would you benefit much more?

Any thoughts / input much appreciated.

Worth trying with the existing tune first, imo.
Cats don't restrict anything like as much as people think.

You would be looking at +£1k bought and mapped, I'm not sure the power gained would be worth it. Might be worth looking for a mapper who still works with Neptune.

No, that was removed a while ago. Since had installed an Accord Euro R engine, Prelude gearbox with slip diff. The M2Q something

In my opinion the S300 is really the only modern day option to tune a Prelude without any hassle of rewiring and finding a tuner.

Thanks for the input. I’m trying to justify as mentioned the best part of a grand for the Hondata.
I think I’ll get the cat on, see how it runs, get the AFR checked out, then see from there.

If Hondata fitted though, what’s the likelihood of any untapped power?

Was mapped at 239.8 bhp, de catted, last time. Or drivability be the main advantage with Hondata?

good plan, i think it will be a waste of 1k to get the Hondata and tune in this case, unless you are planning future power mods down the line.

if its an ATR engine you have i think that's very good going, your barely going to improve on that without bigger cams etc.

Must be honest, I didn't appreciate how expensive Hondata is (assuming you can't pick up a used one cheaper of course).
If you're spending that much, I reckon might be better off spending just that little bit more to get something modern, more reliable/widely supported and more flexible. A Link or a Haltech. So many benefits to one of those systems over hondata now.

This with a generic OBD plug in harness to plug into the factory connectors and then cut/re-pin the other end to the haltech connector.

Or this product from Link works as straight plug in on 4th gen preludes (so with a generic OBD1-2 harness would also plug in to a 5th gen).

(nb: looking at the new price of the Link, I can't see any reason to get the Link over the Haltech tbh - the Haltech is a better product for slightly less money - I just found that used Link as quite a saving over new, so worth mentioning)
