Exhaust Downpipe snapped from manifold connection

As it says in the title. The two manifold downpipes that come together [is this right?] have come apart. So the exhaust backbox is just hanging on the hanger at the moment along with 1st downpipe attached to it. Can I just get it welded back on again, or will I need a new downpipe manifold? Looked under the car, and most of the pipes are getting really rusty. It is easy to see that the pipe broke due to corrison of the metal.
Anyway the car makes a terrible din now as backbox is no longer connected.

My question is, Is it safe to drive still? And B will the hangers keep the exhaust from falling on the road along with the first downpipe?

Really gutted as I was off to "Beaulieu Jap car day" on sunday and was really looking forward to it. Had nothing but problems with my lude, but I will try and keep the faith with her a bit longer.... :(

Will, if the exhaust has snapped then no i wouldn't drive it long distance. 1 because of the gasses. 2 the nois. 3 being pulled over by the plod. You need to sort some pictures or get @dboto take a look.

I think chap if i was u i would get it to an exhaust shop. That way theyd be able to tell you if it can be saved. Other than that just get a new downpipe section. The rubber hangers should hold, depending on the condition of them bit its not legal to drive it that way. Id get it looked at asap :)

Ok guys cheers. Gutted as my MOT and service are due on Friday, as well as missing sundays event which sucks bigtime as I have already stated.

I will go out and take some pics and put them up here as soon as done.

Id be gutted too :? I remember back when i had my s13 got it all sweet and then 2 coils failed. Just as i got in it to set off for flippin USC at pod :x :evil: :lol:

So the back box pipe has snapped off the back box flange.

Nothing is likely to fall off or wobble about excessively there then, because;
The backbox (should have if still as per OEM hanger design!) 3 hangers holding it on - 2 at the back stopping twist and supporting weight at the back and the one you can see in that pic, supporting the weight at the front.
The mid section should have 2 hangers (1 either side) towards the rear of the car from where the cat/de-cat pipe is (should ably support the weight and stop excessive waggling).

It will definitely fail the MOT and upset plod though.

Depending on how much meat is left on the back box pipe, you might be able to get the pipe re-welded to the flange by a garage, otherwise it's a new back box.

It is difficult to see but i think the back box might be ok but the centre section is goosed (from the 2nd picture). If so then you'll probably either need to repair that or just get a new centre section (bit between backbox and catalytic convertor). It'll fail its MOT, but I'd drive it to get it repaired (if the plod pulled me I'd tell them I'm where I'm going). Any good exhaust fabrictors around your way?

Expected if the underside hasn't ever had any love, better to treat it now whilst the weather is still half decent. It doesn't take long for surface rust to become bad rust.
