Mullered Flexi

Post by jjmartin349571 » Mon Aug 26, 2013 7:57 pm

Hi folks,

The flexi on my second gen is shagged - I've tried sourcing a new downpipe but it seems they're no longer produced, do you reckon there's any way this could be repaired, or am I going to have to get it cut out and a new section welded in??

That's a very long flexi and they are only suppose to take movement and vibrations not a total angle change like that, has it got the wrong down pipe on already?

Ooh now there's a question!! Let me check the service manual. the back box has been replaced, so it's wholly possible other parts have been changed.

I know what you mean, that end cap bit :? Maybe it's been bodged before? I'll jack my Accord up tomorrow and check the down pipe on that.

Rather than having been bodged before, looks to me like the rear cap on the end of the braid has fallen off at some time, leaving the flexi exposed and that's caused it to fail?

Will an exhaust shop be able to weld in a new flexi?? My local place refused to repair the exhaust on my BB4 when a seam weld split :? I think they were trying to squeeze money out of me though - more fool them though as Bristol BB4 sorted me out with a mid section and my mate fitted it :)

Additional problem with my 2nd gen is that I can't drive the car without MOT or tax, so can't drive it somewhere to be looked at :|

Most if not all good exhaust shops will be able to sort you out with a weld on flexi. That angle does look a bit weird tho :?
