Yeah, not great news about the cambelt. Had Chris come down & look at it on Saturday, and it took him about 5 mins to diagnose it. I'd been getting heavy vibration coming from the engine for a few days prior to it happening. Turns out the balance shaft was seizing up. Who'd have known?
Anyway, pulled up at Darryl's - absolutely fine. Went to drive away later - and the engine wouldn't turn over. Seems the balance shaft must've finally seized when I pulled up, then the belt snapped when I tried to start it. So hopefully everything will be fine with the engine..just need 3 new belts & a tensioner to get moving again..but that's about £150 I don't have just now. So it will have to wait till I can raise the funds.
Fortunately, I've already got a water pump. And I'll just be leaving the balance shaft belt off.
At least I'm getting some much needed exercise atm with my 50 min walk to work every day!

I can only really think of that happening because of oil starvation???

I'm surprised that caused the cambelt to snap though - I'd have thought it would just cause the balance belt to snap or strip.
Be interesting to see what this all looks like when the covers come off.

Yea as i said on the day, its a possibility. I could not remove the lower cover at the time due to not being able to get the pulley off, so minds are open as to why it snapped, but it has taken the balancer belt with it i am sure. Engine vibration, then belt snap
Something a bit fishy going on!!! As i said Andy, jobby luck!! But it will live again soon

One life, LIVE IT! Get VTEC, LOVE it. Drive a Honda and ENJOY it.

I hope so mate. If it's not the balance shaft, it might be a seized engine..
I have no idea how many miles the engine has done..and it didn't look like it had been maintained particularly well.
So who knows. Will have to hope for the best I suppose.
