I remember we had one of those Phillips 2000 things at school. Cutting edge stuff back then, straight out of "Tomorrow's World". Never bloody worked right as the picture always 'rolled'. I think it was my maths master, Mr Smith (Sweaty Keith as he was nicknamed) constantly faffing about with some kind of roller thing on the front of the machine in a vain attempt to stop it rolling before we all suffered epileptic fits.

V2000 was much higher quality than vhs. Cost won out for vhs though.

My mate's parents had a V2000, couldn't record on iirc. As such they changed it something like Sony Super something, it was still a tape player, but the tapes we a third the size of VHS. That never took off either! lol

When i was 14 or 15, i was off school with tonsillitis. I was feeling better by the end of the week so cycled over to a shop that used to hire videos to anyone and got a French porno. Majorly disappointed though as some fooker had recorded news over the porno scenes" lol.

Any way, my mum was due home from work so i decided to eject and hide it before she pulled up on the drive. We had a front loaded, the tape half ejected and then went back into the machine. I shat myself, i was supposed to be home sick and now had a porno stuck in the VCR. Seemed like an age passed with me trying to grab it, using knifes either side of the tape and eventually i sussed that i could turn it off at the mains part through the ejection process and with careful manipulation with cutlery it popped free as my mum was getting out the car.

A few years after i had left school, I was telling my mate's younger brother about it and it turned out he had hired the same porno about 4 years later with news over all the good scenes. I guess you wouldn't take it back to the shop and complain so they just kept on hiring it out!

Cool story bro....

We still have a VHS player.
We bought top quality S-VHS camera a couple of decades ago. The picture quality is excellent, but suffers when converting to DVD, so if we actually want to watch old stuff, we stick with analogue.

I do the same with audio. Especially if it's on vinyl.
