best mark the dash with a length of tape, and put a pointer mark on the steering wheel.

Wurlycorner it would seem my handbrake light isn't coming on when it's operated :/ I guess this a good start as to why it doesn't reset?

The paper clip seems to be conductive I used it to short out the rad fan plug to test a rad fan, ill still try out a piece of wire any how.

Don't suppose anyone gas a spare switch? Or any ideas as to why something soo simple doesn't work off hand?

That's tomoz job ( to check the parking brake switch) I think

I don't know much at all about the 5th gen 4ws system tbh, but I was thinking that seemed sensible since it was throwing up a handbrake on fault (I can't see how else it would know the handbrake was on, except for that switch?)

I haven't seen the handbrake switch set up on a lude, but handbrake light faults on most cars generally tend to be either bulb, or the bracket the switch mounts on being bent, so the switch isn't making the correct contact with the handbrake so it isn't being fully operated.

Check for voltage at the switch, then disconnect it and operate it manually with a multimeter across it set to resistance/continuity (make sure you can operate the switch over absolutely all of its stroke). If you had voltage supplied to it and can get the switch to go open/closed circuit when operated manually but can't get the bulb to light, it's the bulb (or a poor ground from the switch).
If the bulb works when you operate the switch manually, then it's probably just not adjusted right. Normally involves a bit of bending of the bracket to sort that. :D
