4ws issue on 5gen

Post by Roger » Sat Aug 03, 2013 12:31 am

I am norwegian, so please forgive any strange words and grammar.

Bought my bb6 a month ago. The 4ws light was on. Previous owner told me that this was a error that had been fixed by a honda dealer before, but came back. The receipt for the fix said "code 22, cleaned sensor and deleted the error code", but nothing about which sensor they had worked on. After finding out how to delete 4ws codes on this forum I lifted the car and disconnected some connectors on the rear control unit. They seemed dry and in good condition so I put them back in place. Did the deleting procedure (code 22), and the error was gone. Until today....

Checked it, now it was code 20 Searched the web, and found that 20 and 22 are the same errors. Realizes also that my fiddling on the rear control unit was irrelevant since the codes indicating errors on: "Main steering angle sensor-----------8, 15------------------------------------Front sub steering angle sensor, Front main steering angle sensor"

Is there anyone who has had this problem and know if there is an easy solution? Or do I have to buy new parts? If so, what parts? it appears that the error code allows multiple errors. Where do i find these parts on the car, and are they easy to replace?

I also deleted the code today. The error is gone, but it will surely reappear and become an irritation, so I want to get to the bottom of the problem..

As you have a few different errors coming up it could be a dry joint/ joints in the 4ws ecu. Some people have resoldered all the joints to cure there problems in the past.

So BB6 isnt a model code you see in England.......?
I know you have the same model in england, it is the 2,2 VTi. It has the H22A5 engine, my car is also equipt with the tiptronic gearbox.

Thanks for tip FrontBackSide2Side.

Hi Roger.

I don't know much about this, but have you tried the 4WS reset? Worth a try?

Look towards the end of the first post in this thread...

You're probably aware that the UK national meet is on this weekend so answers may be sparse.

Good luck with it.

Does that problem affect the 5th gen as well then? I only knew of it for 4th gens.

My previous 1997 Prelude has the error code 20 problem. Happened every now and again, especially after moving off quickly while steering. Never got around to sorting it, I just used the reset procedure.
