I think i might have done it! got given the day off work tiday so figured i would give the resolder a shot.
After possibly the worst soldering job ever performed the ecu is back in the car and the 4ws light has gone off with both engine starts i tried. gonna take it for a drive in a sec and hopefully all will be well!

EDIT: it appears to be fixed!! just thrown it around some country lanes for a while and it was working a treat, then when i got home cut the engine and restarted it and the light went straight off. im am well happy!

Thanks so much to everyone who contributed to this thread and helped me out, i couldnt have got it sorted without the help and advice from you guys!

...Although it does still pull to the left a little.

Result!
Well done.

Sounds like you need to get your 4 wheel alignment checked/setup now then?

Yeah im gonna start looking into finding somewhere down here to get it done. first of all though im gonna slap some tyres on it and get it through the MOT, then i can relax a bit whilst i get all the other work done. there is a lot left to do on the old girl!!

Just read through this thread. Great example of a Lude Forum Attack on a problem! :D

4WS is awesome, I think.

One final thing if it's still pulling to the left. There's an old trick you can do with a large mirror to sort the alignment. Stand it against the back bumper facing away from the car and stand behind the car as centrally as you can. Look at the mirror - are both your arms the same size?

So after it working perfectly for a few days, then the 4ws light came on whilst driving on the way to the mot.
I resoldered it again, thinking i had done a better job, and it was fine for a day or two, but has now come back on.

Am i just rubbish at soldering? or is there something else at play here? seeing as its fine for a while after i did it im guessing my soldering just isnt up to standard?

This is driving me mad.

mate that would be awesome, thank you. i presume they are the same? hopefully someone will be able to confirm.
im in exeter so not all that far from you.
im gonna resolder it again today to get it through the mot, but i would imagine it will he the same issue in a couple of days time.

did you want to post the ecu or did you want me to come up to grab it?
