Wheel Hop

Post by Mudgey » Fri Jul 19, 2013 12:16 pm

Hello guys,

Do we know the exact reason for wheel hop on the prelude? With my old H22 motor it would hop like mad if the wheel started losing grip in 1st and 2nd gears, not that would happen very often with the ATTS :)

The reason I ask is thats its pretty much non existent now with the new engine, the only that has changed is the motor, the drive shafts are original, although they have been swapped left to right.. Nothing on the suspension has changed at all, so not really sure what has 'solved' the issue so to speak. The wheels will churp in 2nd gear but it doesn't hop at all like it used too?!

Can anybody shed some light on this?

Ah, well these are the mounts I have fitted:

1. Original Prelude rear most gearbox mount that bolts to the rear cross member.
2. Original Prelude passenger side mount.
3. Powerflex (softest) bushed drivers side mount - still too hard but doesnt effect rotation of engine - its more for supporting the weight of the engine rather than torque control.
4. No front mount as of yet.

Engine moves around a fair bit but is super smooth at idle, so maybe that has something to do with it?

P.S. Is that your Pug?

Strange that it's not hopping without a front mount? It would be the front and rear mounts that affect this the most.
