Anyone hazard a guess at how many 400ml cans of Hammerite smooth it will take to paint all 4 standard calipers?

I'd have thought more than 1 to be safe, but not more than 2?

Are you thinking of using hammerite spray?

I don't know what everyone else thinks of it but for me the spray is weak as body lemonade and goes on nowhere near as well as brushed hammerite.

I know I said foilatec earlier but I have used brush hammerite on calipers before and it was excellent looked good for years. Just be aware of their second coat recommended drying times. If you leave it too long, you then have to leave it for months, so best to plan the job in advance as their is a relatively small window of opportunity to overcoat it.

Always had good results with plasticote enamel brush on. They do a light gold and a bronze which looks good. I have used the pewter to great effect.

Yes, I mean for it to be sprayable it seems to have loads of thinners added and takes loads of coats, which don't seem as good a finish as the brush stuff.

The caveat to this is usually spraying a product gives a better finish, maybe I had a faulty can?

That's fine i don't mind putting loads of coats on as long as i get the right colour and a good finish, plus it will be easy as I've stripped them down to bare metal in some BH deox c, and I'm about to completely rebuild them

So ive started painting, not the calipers though, something else i thought might look nice in gold which ill talk about later once i get off my arse and put up a build thread, but so far im impressed...

First thing i did was give the can a 20 second shake just to see what the colour looks like, when i test sprayed it i was like wtf? i see what he means, it is weak as bloody lemonade, perfect description when you see it come out. Then i shook the can for a full 2 minutes, another test spray and... oh this is better, kept spraying until i was only 10 cm away and still it came out fine and didn't run until i dwelled on a spot.

It is on the thin side compared to some paints but its absolutely fine for me, the first coat already has a very good finish and i love the colour. What i will say though is this comes out in a very very fine mist which goes absolutely bloody everywhere so make sure you cover surrounding areas, thank god i had already done that, although my tool chest is kinda sparkly now
