Door sagging

Post by AeroNotix » Mon Oct 30, 2017 11:19 pm

Hi,

5th gen.

Driver's side (for lhd) door sags when opened. If you lift up the door it'll move by a fair bit. It also means that when closing it if you don't lift it will catch the door frame and has been scuffing it up. No doubt the door has been off at some point and not put on properly.

Any tips before I take it off?

 Can only really be worn hinge pins, or the bolts that hold the hinge to the a pillar are loose. Neither of which I have ever heard of on a lude before...
It's pretty straightforward stuff, but the door is heavy. Much easier to adjust and re-bolt with 2 people.
To access the hinge bolts, remove the wing.
If you think you are going to take the door off, don't forget to disconnect the check strap first (open the door and knock the pin out) schoolboy error that one...

Great. I want to remove the wing any way to deal with a small dent any way.

Thanks for the information!

My other project car is a classic mini. The more I work on the Lude the more I see that they're really not that different!

Also, the door weighs a lot too. I found out the hard way when I undid the last bolt and it fell just mm away from my bare feet.. :|
