Yer my thoughts. Im just hoping the alt isnt getting to hot and not working propperly. Its too hot to touch when the engine is running.
Perhaps i will try another alt.

It shouldn't be that hot. That heat will cause the diode pack to break down (and even if not breaking down, change operation slightly as the heat increases). Could also eventually cause the insulation on the windings to break down.

Out of interest, have you checked to see whether you can measure any ac voltage out of the alternator? Unlikely to be able to measure any with a multimeter even if the rectifier is going down, but sometimes you can measure some...

I have just bought a cigarette voltage gauge for £4 so i can see voltage on the move just as an aid.
I have also purchased a sheet of Zircoflex 3 so i can put that inbetween my manifold and alt. Its literally a 1mm gap between piston 1 primary and the alt.

There was a piece of sticky flexible heat shield sheeting on it that PAW put on but it fell off and disintergrated during supercharger install.

I can only assume the alt gets to hot and stops charging.

id say its your alternator thats the problem here not the exhaust heating it up . its getting hot due to it trying so hard to charge

I bought a second hand alternator but both the seller and I were not certain this alt is working so I bought it anyway cheap.

Slapped it on earlier and started the car. The battery and alt are not putting out anything over 12v.

I'm going to try grounding the alt directly but what else could it be. Ill check fuses. Might just buy a new reconditioned alt and that's that sorted.

check the fuses to see if its blown sounds like the alternators arnt get exicted so either fuse is blown or a wire is broken going to the connector

Checked and both are fine. Fuses are fine, wires are fine. Getting voltage on the wires and grounding won't help. Maybe this alt is fubared too.

New alternator in and working flawlessly. Yay.

But oh no. More problems. Back to the other thread.
