For the record, mine had very similar symptoms to this and it turned out to be just a fuse. When the fuses pop on 4th gen lights, they do some weird things...

Right, checked all the obvious things, connectors, fuse ect. Everything checks out ok at the moment :?. So dug into the wiring diagram. IMO i can only see two reasons as to why all the lights went. Either the relay or the main switch.
All of the headlights go through one relay by the looks of it and the main switch controls that relay so makes sense :? Will be replacing the relay and dismantling the main switch to check contact points. 8-) Will update with some pics when i do.

I discounted the switch because when selecting main beam from what I saw, it didn't disturb the dipped contacts - just made/broke an extra set of contacts for the main beam. Dipped contacts stayed made. Could be a defect inside the switch though I suppose, if something has come astray and it is affecting the internal gubbins...

No it doesn't, but if the contacts are crap, it would cut the feed to the relay, in turn cutting it all out. The pissing enouing thing tho is they are fully working now.
