Windscreen wiper issue

Post by rob quilter » Tue Jul 01, 2014 6:03 pm

I have an annoying fault with my SiR. When the wipers are on and and I switch them off, the wipers stop straight away where they are, rather than returning to the bottom of the windscreen.

Anyone got any idea what's going on with them?

Pretty sure everything needed for this is covered in the 4th gen manual (if not the 5th gen one).

If it's anything like the Rover wiper motors (and these cars are of the age where Rover and Honda were working together) then it's one of the contacts inside the motor is broken and not completing the electrical circuit once the wiper stalk is turned off.

I thought it may be a duff motor.

The rover one was easy to fix, you just open it up and solder a new piece of metal onto the contact to extend it.

Might even get away with bending it down so it makes contact.

Yea I suspect it will req a replacement motor, as that is where the decision is made as to where the wipers park

Here's the link to repair procedure on the Rover. Could be worth a look before shelling out for a new motor.

If it's the same as a 4th gen, I have one available.
