Right I've checked and took out the cup holder and there's a black box in there but looks like it's for an alarm as green light flashing? But my last prelude had the same clocks was told that auto clocks were used as couldn't source a manual 1? I'll ask the vtec specialist on Friday and let you guys know

take the steering cowl off and you should be able to release the key there is something on the ignition switch that locks and releases it

And then change the barrel? Because I don't keep wanting to remove the owl just to release the key

no its not the barrel causing it if its been converted its the wiring loom all the barrels are the same if I remember right if you unplug the barrel it will release the key don't quote me though

if I am right its a magnetic switch that locks it

The real info on how that system work is in the 4th gen service manual. The key interlock is in one of the supplement sections.

Is it similar to this?
Merlin wrote: got a new key cut and then got it stuck in the ignition barrel  Since I have no interior I could get to the ignition barrel easily. There is a little plastic cover on the bottom of the barrel and it hides an even smaller inspection hole. A combination of levering with a screwdriver and twisting/pushing the key finally got it out.

I could be wrong, but I'm sure all Preludes had clocks from the factory.. if it was always a manual, why would someone swap out the clocks from an auto? :?:

We'll my car was imported in 1998 so would have been due a clock change due to Esva as it wasn't over ten years old at the time. Nothing else in the car suggests it was an auto other than the clocks. Even on eBay I can only find auto clocks. I want manual ones as they look a lot better.
