i dnt have a clue mate i just changed my bulbs and problem solved some of the other members will probably be able to help you out,hope u get it sorted though mate

Can anyone else tell me the next best thing to try to sort this out? I really need this sorted as its a criminal offence to drive your car knowing you have a broken brake light? Help please?

Check the connections on the bulb plugs are clean and tight. Do both sides use a common earth point, or is there a different earth point for left/right brake lights? If different, give the earth point a good inspection and take it apart/clean/reassemble.
