Swap 94 analogue dash for digital 96

To clarify - that's In Car Entertainment - not frozen water

I have the opposite, they dim with the headlights on, but I have no way to make them even dimmer, but clicking the switch over does give me full brightness. How odd

The other instruments do, just the dials don't (although diming control is fine/same as with the other instruments apart from that). You can see that in the video I posted on previous page.
Reading the user manual (P57), it states:

"The dial on the front of the centre console controls the brightness of the instrument panel lights. Turn the dial to adjust the brightness.

To reduce glare at night, the fuel and temperature gauges dim when you turn on the position light or headlights. You then adjust their brightness when you adjust the instrument panel brightness.

On some types, control dial is located on the dashboard beside the steering wheel. On this type, turning the dial up as far as it will go returns the fuel and temperature guages to their daytime brightness"

This suggests that the rev and speedo guages should not return to their full daytime brigtness with the lights on, just the fuel and temp guages, which is how yours are working right now?

Just to confuse the issue, I haven't fitted my EL dials yet, but on my normal pre facelift UKDM, I'm almost 100% that it's only the temp and fuel that go 'mega bright' when you click over. My dimmer is in the centre console btw.

There were a few wires to extend and re-route, but it didn't take too long.

@c_doughty1, give me a shout and I'll give you a hand, I've got all the necessary kit here, and can understand the wiring diagrams, and what better excuse to meet up!!
I don't suppose you are free this Saturday are you?

It's been a while  Nothing much else to add. Swapping in the facelift dimmer pack would be the best thing too - @bennyboy did that and got fullly working dash dimmer. Oh - and definitely wear gloves!

As above.
The dimmer pack is crucial IMO, and there is an extra earth on the passenger side, a black wire IIRC.
If you do all that right, it really is plug and play on the UKDMs. :)
