Main beam headlights cut out !!!!

Post by Thebusofwoe » Sun May 18, 2014 12:14 am

Hi.

Just driving from Bournemouth back home to Salisbury and i went to use my main beam. It worked then went to use it again and it just cut all the lights out. Clicked back off main beam and dipped beam came back on.Anyway got back home on just dipped beam, testing it now and main beam is working normally again :?.

Has this happened to anyone else?? Kind of scary when doing 60 in the dark with no lights!!!! :?

Cheers

Nope, but if it was when you went from main beam back to dipped and you have dim/dipped (which you probably do?) then it can only be one of these not picking up after the main beam feed is dropped out by the switch;
  • The Dim-Dip control unit (part of the ICU :roll: )
    or the Dim-Dip resistor
Suggest checking the connectors to the dim-dip resistor as a first step.

GJMHONDA2012 had a problem with his headlights, but I think in his case it was caused by having uprated bulbs drawing too much power and burning out his relay? :think:

H10ndr also had a problem with the headlights on his, think it was dim-dip not working

Either way, if you have a look through their posts you should find what they had :D

It also done it before I put 100w bulbs in but it was my relay so just changed relay and all is good now but best checking other options too check ur bulb connectors are not melted anywhere

This - most 4gs suffer from this at sometime or another - its normally intermitent short due to corrosion on the terminals of the bulb connectors - (the black 3 pin oblong ones). Ebay do low cost replacements for this ;) Nice easy fix :)

Yep, looking at the circuit some more I missed that there's a connection onto the dipped bulbs coming out of fuse 50, so that means it could also be the "Headlight Relay" (not the "Dimmer Relay") or connections on fuse 50.
