lude wouldn't start and spluttery in 5th gear/ help please

Hi guys on Saturday I went out to start my car and it wouldn't start, I kept turning it over and eventually she fired up, not had any problems starting since,but I've also noticed that if I'm driving around 40mph or thereabouts in 5th gear and I start accelerating it splutters occasionally what could be the cause of this??? Any help much appreciated

Before I'm shot down for being wrong, COULD it be the throttle position sensor playing up?

Check for vacuum leaks on the inlet system - make sure all the hoses are tightly secured with nothing loose/unplugged etc. and inspect for cracks/splits.

If you can get it running, leave it running while you squirt carb cleaner over the inlet/breather hoses and see if the engine note changes. If it does then take a close look where you've just sprayed because there's a leak there.

EDIT:
Nb it could be a few things, that's just one thing thats worth checking/eliminating early on.

I'll check those things, its a weird one to me never done it before, it idles fine when its started and temp is also OK fans kick in fine too its just the past few weeks I've noticed a slight splutter in 5th gear accelerating from about 40mph and then Saturday and this morning it wouldn't start first time it took a few attempts to fire up
