KPH-MPH Converter Required?? - 4G - Help Please

Post by CrunchyAdams82 » Wed Jul 16, 2014 9:17 pm

Hi guys,

Just swapped out my clocks in my JDM BB4 cos they were stuck on 129,999 miles & only go up to 120mph.

These are the old clocks..

And these are the new clocks..

Image

They go up to 180mph..just like my first JDM - 12 years ago. 8-)

Only problem is, the speed now appears to go up in kph. :?

When I'm going about 40mph ish, the speedo reads 60mph. And when I'm going about 100mph (on private roads), it reads about 160mph.

So how do I go about converting this? And why did the old clocks go up in mph? Did they have an internal converter? If so, can this be robbed for the new clocks? Or do I need to wire some sort of converter into the loom?

They've obviously been used with an external converter at some point in the past, because they have an MPH label on them. So I know it can be done..just not sure how.

Ideas please. :)

I'm sure a few of you have had to overcome this before. ;)

Thanks in advance.

Not a helpful post sorry but how weird is it that your old clocks had the speedo in mph with kmh underneath, but the odometer in km :? Is that an OEM face on them?

Yeah, they were pretty strange clocks. A very early production OEM edition.

Yes you will need an aftermarket converter, the new clocks you have are kph, just with a cheeky mph sticker added by someone.

Haha, thought as much.

One thing though..are there different converters for different dials? For example, these clocks read 180mph. If there were clocks that read 140mph, would the required converter be the same, or are there differently calibrated converters for different dials?

Or better yet, do you know where I can acquire the appropriate converter for my application?

Just one type of converter needed, to alter the signal from the vss. ebay is probably the best place.

Just a quick example, which seems quite pricey, if you cannot find one much cheaper, you might be better off actually getting some real mph clocks, which will read correctly straight out of the box.
