Something blown up in ECU!

So today I had a look in my ECU, in prep for installing a new chip from Rob.

But I see a transistor that's popped!

The car starts and runs just fine, but obviously something ain't right!

Does anyone have an ECU you could look in, and tell me what transistor type that one is, so I can change it?

Or anyone know what it does?

Are you sure everything still works

That seems pretty fried

i would probably just try and find a replacement ecu chap.

Well the car starts, drives, steers and stops.

No need to replace the ECU when a 2-pound component has failed. If I knew what type it was, which is printed on it but now not discernible due to the conflagration, I could obtain one and replace it.

Ok fair shout. Being i know how tricky these ecu's are to solder id just get a replacement.

There are a few around. Cant help you with the component im afraid chap

what type ecu is it? UKDM JDM? You will find board number on right top corner

JDM, 2.2 VTEC auto.

The blown component is Q30.

Interesting... I didn't expect there to be much difference between that ECU and another, but I've just opened up a spare UKDM manual ECU I have lying around (xxxx-P13-G01) and I have Q30 fitted but nothing in Q29

FWIW, all the transistors in that batch have the same code on them;
Top row: "D1780" (or "D178D" difficult to tell through the lacquer)
Bottom row: "45"

If that's burnt out, you should check any bias resistors and any components after the Emitter too, in case one of those has gone down and that was causing excessive current draw through the transistor itself.

That part of the ecu controls rust on the arches. Quite common on 4th gens. Replace the ecu and your arches should stop rusting.

if only that was true
