Aerial motor skipping

Post by JEBB4 » Thu Jan 08, 2015 9:57 pm

I have done abit of searching and cant find much on this..

The aerial on my BB4 skipps and grinds really badly when it reaches the ends of its travel going up and down..
it works fine but its just a horrible noise and a tad embarrassing when you pull up in town, switch the car off and it makes this hideous noise...

( you can see people actually thinking "haha look at that crappy old honda, its falling apart" )

anyway I take it this is a common isue with the motor so is there a way I can fix it or is it just a case of a new aerial needed?

Any input appreciated as usual :)

I used to fix mine by extending all the sections fully, then clean with Ferrosol. Then do practice open / closes pulling on it to extend all sections. Eventually it will work smooth.

Does that work for the machine gun noise at the end of travel then Tim? I thought that was cause of worn teeth and needed a change of aerial? Result if not! :D

mine used to do this as well and got worse and worse - sounds like a common failure after a certain amount of time, just replace the mechanism ;) easy replacement to do.

Mine goes up and down but sounds like a slow machine gun when it gets to the top and bottom respectively. New motor?

I replaced mine once, when that gave up too, I changed it for an S2k aerial.
TBH, I was fed up of looking like a dodgem anyway

How handy are you? I stripped mine down and repaired it a few times over the years, before finally changing over.
