Fitting a half mast ariel switch to a bb4. HELP PLEASE.

Post by crigal.bb6 » Sat May 02, 2015 9:56 am

Good morning people.
I have sold a half mast switch to a friend and he would like to know what he will need to do to fit it to his 95 bb4? He is hoping that the wiring with the connector we need will allready exist on his loom? Could anybody tell me if thats the case? If not what will he need to do?

Thanks in advance.

If the car wasn't built with half mast, then the wiring won't exist I'm afraid.
You need to add the switch into the loom and run an extra wire back from the switch to the aerial.
If you look in the 4th gen service manual at the wiring diagrams you'll be able to compare the set up with the half mast compared to that without.

Also the half mast aerial itself is different to a full height aerial. You can't just fit a switch, you need to swap the aerial as well.

I think... from memory :? that you can fit/plug in a half mast aerial ok on a lude that doesn't have half mast and vice versa (think the connector is the same, it's just missing one of the wires?) so it will work ok going to full height (though obviously half mast height won't work) but not 100% sure - it's a long time ago that I did that.

:? I'm surprised that a bb4 doesn't have half mast anyway? I thought all jdm ludes had half mast?

Thank you for the info it is much appreciated.
So im right in saying i can cut the section he needs from the loom and he can add it himself? He said he is happybto soldier :?. If worst comes to worst I can remove the entire loom and give him that.

I havent personal seen the car but im told it is a bb4. Thought that basically everything is a optional extra other than climate control on a bb4 as it is the light weight model.

What sort of price are the ariels and loom worth??

Thanks again.
