HIDs go boom!!

Post by chris1811 » Sun Jun 28, 2015 6:20 pm

Ok so this happened yesterday.......

Image

Was putting my HIDs in my car and one of the inline capacitors went boom. It was literally like a shotgun going off which bought a load of my neighbours out onto the street to see me shaking my head with my ears ringing ha

So what lights can folks recommend ?

I'm happy to go with HIDs but want decent quality ones any suggestions?

If not HIDs anyone have any others options? I've used osram nihhtbreakers before but they died quickly.

Ideally Id like something that isn't yellow. I'm intending on doing LED conversions all round (not brake lights), so would be nice for them all to mix in together and look good :)

Cheers all

What's another option then if not HIDs?

Are projectors difficult to retrofit??

i have never done it so i havnt a clue but there are people who have so if you wait long enough someone will post up. Putting hids in normal headlights will mean they will blind any oncoming traffic and get you pulled by the fuzz (which i am assuming will be painfull)

You can buy 'R' HIDs which prevent them from blinding people. Used them in my Insignia. Pretty good actually :)

D2R hid bulbs are designed for reflectors housings designed to control hid light intensity patterns not halogen reflectors.
Honda Civics and volvos use hid reflectors.

Putting any hid bulbs into a halogen reflectors or projectors won't work as it focus the light wrong. You need a reflector or projector designed for hids.

I put some mini projectors in my stock lights. Its a bit of work but well worth it.
