To clarify - that's In Car Entertainment - not frozen water

BB1 Rev & Speedo dials problem

Post by Bladder » Wed Jul 29, 2015 4:34 pm

Hi all, I am in the process of doing a engine
conversion on my BB3. I am putting the lump
and dials in from a BB1. I have just put the
Rev/speedo gauges in and have come across a
problem. I believe that it did it on the old car also. The dials are lighting up as normal but when I turn the key to start the engine, the needles light up and miles driven flash for a split second and then disappear. Also fuel and water temp gauges aren't working. I saw a post about them possibly needing to warm up but have left mine for 10 mins or so and nothing so far. I do have the old fuel and water gauge so could put back in. Any help would be great. Thanks in advance.

Are you putting EL dials into a non EL car?
If so, it's not a straight swap. You need to alter the wiring.

Can't think why the fuel and water temp gauges wouldn't be working, but you wouldn't need to swap them between the cars anyway - they're all the same (barring some differences in warning lights dependant on country/equipment). Just leave your original binnacle in there.

Cheers Iain. I have changed all the wiring loom in the dash to the bb1 wiring.

Oh...

In that case, the whole wiring diagrams for both cars will need to be worked through in order to find the answer.
May well find there are differences at the main connections between the dash looms and main harnesses etc.

Just thinking I can find the lead that controls the lighting and put an ignition live to it?
