Is this a car you've had for ages and it's only just started doing it? Or is it a new car to you?

If the a/c control is anything like the 4g, there are 2 relays in the engine bay behind the passenger side headlight. One controls the a/c compressor clutch and the other controls the a/c condenser fan. Difficult to imagine how a relay fault could cause the fan to operate normally with the ignition on but then misbehave with the ignition off, but that's the local point for the fan being switched on/off...

Iv had this car for 3 years its a 2.0 5g. It only started doing this after a long no-start period(10 weeks). Yes I have checked both of those relays to be sure and they are ok.

Does the AC blow cold? Just wondering if a low pressure situation could somehow trigger this?

 random thought... does it have the additional cooling fan timer circuit like on some 4g models? Can't recall how/what the circuit does exactly, but I seem to recall it has something to do with keeping one of the dans on under some circumstances... :? you'd need to look up in the service manual.

Update. Fan went off after about 30mins. Isn't there a fan delay unit that could be the problem?

The fans will run after ignition is off if it thinks temp are to high. Poss bad relay or temp sensor?
