Wont select reverse
Wont select reverse
Hi guys, im after some help if possible. I have a 2000 5th gen 2.2Vti redtop and for whatever reason, it suddenly stopped allowing me to select reverse gear. Ive tried all the normal quick fixes e.g selecting first and then reverse but nothing works, i drove the car car in reverse several times on this day and it was no problem. i arrived home and when i tried to reverse out of my drive it simply would not, and still will not let me select reverse gear. there is no crunching, no bad noise, and all other gears are fine and the car drives as normal it just wont budge?? its really annoying, what have i broken? and help would be appreciated! thanx!!

Clutch slave cylinder might be slightly out? Both my preludes I've owned the cylinder has leaked and then it makes it impossible to get into gear. Cheap fix from a scrappy or even new off eBay are pretty cheap. Just one idea could be completely wrong.

If it has completely gone none of them would work. But I had the same kind of problem, it was the opposite where getting it into 1st gear was near impossible however all the other gears worked fine. That's why I'm guessing it could be that. It's the cheapest option to try before you start talking big money with gear boxes and clutch etc. I'm not a mechanic by any means, other people might have different opinions its just from past experience it happened to me. The clutch slave cylinder bolt that engages the clutch was the wrong size it had worn down after so many years so it wouldn't engage first properly. I took it to a garage and they was trying to rip me off by replacing clutch and gear box for about £800! I then took it to my mate and it cost £20.
